Daniamant is proud to present a new range of lifejacket light and a new concept of lifejacket light.
Daniamant continue to offer lithium based technology survivor location lights as its preferred choice of battery technology. This is due to lithium’s superior power and ability to work at extreme temperatures, whilst having a longer life once activated e.g. the M3/W3 range currently lasts for almost 90 hours at the required 0.75cd light output.
However as disposal of lithium becomes more of an issue and transportation costs increase Daniamant need to offer its Customers a choice of battery technologies.
Our new Alkaline range meets all the testing requirements of SOLAS and the Marine Equipment Directive but using alkaline technology this new range will only last for 60 hours – still way in excess of the required 8 hours.
Our new range is of course 100% approved but gives our Customers a choice of two quality lights. You can now make a choice depending on your priorities in transport versus, disposal versus performance.
This new, low profile light is a single compact flashing unit. It is manually activated by pressing the switch on the front of the light. The light is emitted through an ultra low profile dome, making the light less susceptible to damage during evacuation.
This is the automatic version of M4-A. The light activates automatically when in water and can be turned off manually if required.
The DAN M4-A is a flashing lifejacket light which is activated manually. The DAN W4- A can be activated manually or by water sensor.
The DAN M4-A / W4-A lifejacket light is for use on all types of lifejackets.
The DAN M4-A / W4-A light can be supplied with fixing clips or a recessed housing. The clips is intended to be placed behind a strip of lifejacket material or reflective tape or clipped on to the tube of an inflatable lifejacket: the light is secured by pressing it into the clip.
The recessed housing is designed to be fitted into a cut out on a foam lifejacket.
An illustration showing a typical attachment methods is shown
It is the responsibility of the lifejacket manufacturer to ensure that the light is attached securely and is
in the correct position on the lifejacket to provide maximum visibility when the wearer is in the water.
The DAN W4-A is switched on automatically when the sensor is immersed in water; no user action is required. The light can be switched on and off by operating the clearly marked switch on the top of the surface for at least 1 second. The DAN M4-A is operated by the manual switch only. *Manual operation requires the user to press and hold the switch for at least 1 second : when turning the light on it will emit 2 flashes in quick succession indicating it is going in to flash mode and that the switch now can be released. Turning the light off; press and hold the switch for 1 second the light will emit a steady light when pressed. Now release the switch and the light will turn off.
Maintenance, Routine service
DAN M4-A / W4-A units are maintenance free, but the following cheks should be made annually:
1. Inspect the light and its attachment for signs of damage or corrosion.
2. For DAN W4-A, a test probe (Daniamant Part No. 1990) can be used to test the water sensor switch.
Alternatively a paper clip may be applied to the two water contacts.
3. For DAN M4-A DAN W4-A, test the light by operating the switch as described above * The light must
flash. Operate the switch again, and the light must stop flashing.
It is recommended that the light is activated for one minute.
The storage life of the DAN M4-A / DAN W4-A batteries is five years from the date of manufacture; the expiry date is clearly marked on the unit. On expiry the light should be carefully removed, and a new DAN M4-A / W4-A fitted.
