A rescue boat is a vessel designed to assist during rescue operations and to rescue sailors in distress during an emergency. These boats are designed for the sole purpose of rescuing people and hence are decked with features that will enable it to do the same. Rescue boats consist of inflatable boats and lifeboats

SOLAS rescue boat is a specialized safety craft designed to meet the strict international standards of the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS). Unlike standard lifeboats, which are primarily for evacuation, rescue boats are built for rapid deployment to recover persons from the water and marshal liferafts.

  • Capacity: Must be able to carry at least five seated persons and one person lying on a stretcher.
  • Deployment: Capable of being launched within 5 minutes while the ship is making headway at speeds up to 5 knots.
  • Performance: Must have a minimum speed of 6 knots for at least 4 hours when fully loaded with its complement of persons and equipment.
