SPILL STATION, SOPEP 7 BARREL OIL / FUEL MARINE SPILL KIT

Regulation 37 of MARPOL Annex I requires that oil tankers of 150 gross tonnage and above and all ships of 400 gross tonnage and above carry an approved Shipboard Oil Pollution Emergency Plan (SOPEP).

As part of this contingency planning, vessels under 400' require a 7 Barrel (1100 ltr) Marine Spill Kit. Vessels above 400' require a 12 barrel (1900 ltr) Marine Spill Kit.

These Spill Kits contain a variety of oil only absorbents only and PPE for addressing shipboard spills.

SOPEP = Shipboard Oil Spill Pollution Emergency Plan

A 7-barrel spill kit is an 1,100-liter marine oil spill response system required under MARPOL Annex I / SOPEP regulations for vessels under 400 feet. It contains specialized oil-only absorbents, personal protective gear, and recovery tools to safely contain and clean up large deck or coastal fuel spills. 

Purpose and Regulations

Compliance: Meets IMO, MARPOL, and OPA 90 guidelines for ships and oil tankers over specific tonnages.
Vessel Size: Mandated for ships and marine structures under 400 feet (larger vessels over 400 feet require a 12-barrel / 1,900-liter kit).
Capacity: Designed to absorb and manage roughly 1,100 liters (7 barrels) of hydrocarbon liquids. 

Standard Kit Contents

Absorbent Pads: Around 600 oil-only or fuel absorbent pads (approx. 40cm x 50cm).
Marine Booms: Roughly 6 absorbent marine booms (125mm x 3m) to encircle and block water/deck spread.
Rolls and Pillows: 1 large absorbent roll (50m x 500mm) and multiple absorbent pillows.
Safety Gear: Disposable hooded overalls and splash-proof anti-fog safety goggles.
Disposal & Tools: Spark-proof shovels, 15 to 18 biohazard waste disposal bags with ties, and granular absorbent material housed in a weather-proof 1,000L HDPE container.

For compliance with MARPOL 73/78, Annex 1, Regulation 37 which requires every oil tanker of 150 tons gross and above, and every ship of 400 tons gross and above to carry a SOPEP, approved by the Administration. The plan contains useful check lists covering various oil spill and pollution scenarios. Requires basic ship specific information to be inserted by ships staff in order to satisfy the above MARPOL regulations.
