Inspection Guidelines & Regulations
In Singapore, Full-Body Harnesses (FBHs) must comply with strict Ministry of Manpower (MOM) and Work at Heights (WAH) guidelines to ensure worker safety

  • Pre-Use Checks: Must be visually inspected by the wearer before every use. 
  • Formal Inspections: Must undergo a formal, documented competent person/manufacturer inspection at intervals not exceeding 6 months. For harsh or heavy-use environments (e.g., construction, marine), 3-month intervals are recommended. 
  • Lifespan: Depending on manufacturer recommendations, harnesses generally have a lifespan of up to 5–10 years from the date of manufacture, provided they pass regular inspections. 
  • Post-Fall: Any harness that has arrested a fall must be immediately withdrawn from service and destroyed.

4.7 Inspection of Personal Protective Equipment

• All PPE shall be inspected before every use.

• Regular inspection by a competent person should be performed at least once every 12 months as per manufacturer’s instructions. For use in extreme environments (e.g., near hot works), more frequent inspections are required. • Inspection procedures and records should be documented and filed in a location where they are readily available to the users or authoritative inspection. 

• It is important to follow all specific instructions or recommendations for inspection that are provided with the equipment at the time of purchase. These instructions must be stored in a location accessible to users. If required by the manufacturer, the equipment shall be returned to the manufacturer for inspection, repair or recertification.

• All equipment must be scrapped if the stress indicator or warning system has been activated.

• If the PPE has been used to arrest a fall, remove all components of the system from service and dispose them according to manufacturer’s recommendation.
