Description

DATREX 400RT and 401RT (Child) Type I USCG Lifejacket

SKU: DX400RTJ

Datrex 400RT and 401RT are the most comfortable Type I USCG approved PFD in the market providing many years of use in multitude of commercial and recreational applications. It is designed for maximum wearability and buoyancy for offshore and rough waters where rescue may be delayed. With a minimum buoyancy of 24 lbs., it can turn an unconscious person from face down in the water to a vertical or slightly backward position. Polyethylene foam provides maximum flotation and will not lose buoyancy if cut or punctured. Sewn on SOLAS retro-reflective tape meet or exceed all requirements for commercial vessels carrying passengers for hire. The safest and most comfortable Type I available. This flotation device is recommended for use in offshore use.

  • The most comfortable USCG Type I PFD
  • 24 lbs. of minimum buoyancy
  • 63 Sq. inches of SOLAS-grade reflective tape
  • Weather and fade-resistant polyester
  • Light loop and whistle attachment over shoulder
  • Strongest stainless steel hardware available
  • Available child size

uscg type 1 life jacket

A USCG Type I life jacket is the best choice for rough, offshore waters where rescue might be delayed, offering maximum buoyancy (22 lbs), turning most unconscious wearers face-up, and featuring high-visibility materials like SOLAS tape, a whistle, and often a light for extended survival and easier nighttime rescues.
Key Characteristics:

  • Offshore Performance: Designed for extended survival in rough seas where help is far away.
  • Unconscious Turn: Turns an unconscious person into a vertical or slightly backward position, keeping their face out of water.
  • High Visibility: Includes reflective tape and often an attachment for a safety light for nighttime visibility.
  • Commercial Standard: Often required on commercial vessels and recommended for recreational boaters in open waters.
  • Inherently Buoyant: Provides flotation without needing inflation.
USCG Type I Life Vest (Reversible) is a specialized Personal Flotation Device (PFD) designed for offshore use in rough or remote waters where rescue may be delayed.
Key Features
  • Reversibility: Designed to be donned quickly and correctly with either the inner or outer surface facing the wearer.
  • Buoyancy: Provides the highest level of buoyancy among standard PFDs—minimum 22 lbs (98N) for adults and 11 lbs (50N) for children.
  • Self-Righting: Specifically engineered to turn most unconscious wearers from a face-down position to a face-up vertical or slightly backward position.
  • Visibility: Features International Orange coloring and SOLAS-grade reflective tape to assist search and rescue efforts.
  • Durability: Often constructed with weather-resistant polyester and heavy-duty stainless steel hardware to withstand harsh marine environments.
Popular Models

Marketed as a highly comfortable option providing 24 lbs of buoyancy with non-absorbent foam.
Type 1 PFD (Personal Flotation Device), also known as an Offshore Life Jacket, is designed for use in open, rough, or remote waters where rescue may be delayed. It provides the highest level of buoyancy among all wearable PFDs and is engineered to turn most unconscious wearers face-up in the water to prevent drowning.
Key Performance Characteristics
  • Buoyancy: Adult models provide a minimum of 22 lbs (100 Newtons) of buoyancy, while child sizes provide at least 11 lbs.
  • Turning Ability: Its primary safety feature is the ability to turn an unconscious person from a face-down position to a face-up, vertical, or slightly backward position.
  • Visibility: Most are manufactured in International Orange and include SOLAS-grade reflective tape to aid in night rescues.
  • Design: These jackets are typically bulky and constructed with inherently buoyant foam, which can also offer some protection against hypothermia.
Recommended Use Cases
Type 1 PFDs are required on commercial vessels and are highly recommended for the following activities:

  • Offshore cruising, racing, and deep-sea fishing.
  • Boating alone or in stormy, rough water conditions.
  • Situations where rescue is not immediately possible.
