- Minimum Quantity: Ships carrying cargoes requiring specific entries in the IBC Code (Chapter 17, column o) must carry at least three complete sets of safety equipment.
- Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA): One set of safety equipment must include an SCBA with a capacity of at least 1,200 liters of free air, not using stored oxygen.
- Protective Clothing: The equipment includes protective clothing, boots, gloves, and tight-fitting goggles, all designed to provide adequate protection against the specific chemicals being carried.
- Lifeline: A steel-cored rescue line with a belt is required for rescue purposes.
- Explosion-Proof Lamp: An explosion-proof lamp is also included as part of the safety equipment.
- Cargo Specificity: If the ship carries toxic cargoes, the protective suits must be capable of providing adequate protection against those specific chemicals, as indicated in the manufacturer's resistance table, according to Scribd. The responsible officer must be aware of the limitations of the protective suits concerning the carried cargoes.
